Aim

This course applies to living, working or travelling in remote or isolated areas. It is particularly relevant for people working in mining, environmental research, outdoor recreation, eco tourism and many other pursuits that take them away from populated areas.

This unit has a pre-/co-requisite of HLTFA301C Apply First Aid, which must be completed either prior to commencement of the course, or completed in conjunction with it. Participants should have numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to the Australian Core Skills Framework.

 

 

 

Topics
Topics included in this course are:

  • Preparing for isolated travel or work, accounting for
    expected contingencies
  • Assessing a casualty's condition to determine the appropriate response
  • Evaluation of options for obtaining medical assistance and/or transporting the casualty
  • Monitoring a casualty's condition and undertaking ongoing first aid procedures as required
  • Provision of shelter from the elements and comfort for the casualty
  • Establishing communications and working in conjunction with medical and emergency services support
  • Evaluation of incident management and participation in debriefing to improve future planning and response.

Delivery
This course is designed to be “hands-on”, delivering you the practical knowledge for a very simple out-come. Prior enrolment and payment is required, then you will be given our Training Workbook to peruse at your own pace before the course begins. The course is in a friendly atmosphere. It is really that simple, so no stressing.

 
 

Pathway
Successful completion of this course, will enable you to progress to advanced courses in First Aid.

 
 

Assessment
All candidates will be required to pass a short multiple-choice questionnaire and demonstration of skills. They will then be issued with a Statement of Attainment.
